Bad day in the Caddy.....I want to CRY
« on: November 16, 2004, 05:58:05 pm »
Picture this...

I-95 about 3 miles from my house....all of a sudden the oil pressure drops on my '81 Caddy TD and before I can pull over and get it to the side of the road there is a very unhappy, very loud noise that culminates in a loud BANG!!!!!!

Summary:  OIL AND WATER DO NOT MIX!!!

I think the threw a rod and the block is toast. I will find out more in the next few weeks as I tear it all apart again and build anew!!!  :(

Anyonw know of a 1.6 or 1.9 TD Laying around that they want to give me?

Anywho, as is the rule, here's the pics.

Bow your head for me if you will and keep a poor young lost TD in your thoughts!!!!

Mikey

Sorry to hear that Mikey...Hope you can get it sorted soon...have you considered putting a tdi engine in? Thats what Im hoping to do in the future but for now my dreaded 1.9TD problems keep my mind of it.

Oh no! :(  Big time pisser.  The prospect of a TDI swap is promising though.  I hope you go through with it, we can compare notes when I start my Scirocco/TDI project!  (it will be a while for me though)

Keep us posted.

I can feel your pain.  Way back in 1988 while driving my 79 rabbit diesel home from a friends home in Va, it started to make a loud sound like the exhaust was coming loose, then it just stopped and I saw the water pump belt go fling off in the review. Pulled over and popped the hood only to see a connecting rod pushed threw the block and pushed out the water pump.  When I took it apart the nuts came off the connecting rod cap. They were down in the oil pan. The engine was the original one with 135k on it.  I found a used 82 diesel for an expensive $750 and stuffed it in. Ran great after that.
Needless to say it was an early morning, I was 3 hours from the base, I'm in the Air Force, and I had to be at work by 4 that day.  I had to call a friend up and have him drive up 3 hours to pick me up and get the vehicle towed to a friends house and then drive back to the base. I made it to work just in time. Made for a long day.
How hard is it to put a TDI in? Time to do a search on here. :D

We will see what happened to the Caddy motor. I hope to pull it on Sunday and see what the hell let loose.

I am working on some logisitics for the TDI engine, but in the meantime, I have found a TD donor Jetta for $500 locally....for the whole car!!!!  I think I will probably make up my money plus some on parting it out the donor Jetta.  I will let y'all know when the parting begins.

Thanks for the kind words.
