missing spring
« on: January 28, 2007, 12:42:31 pm »
Ok, so I took the pump apart to do the governor mod. 2 problems. This is on an AAZ by the way. #1 is that there is no idle spring for the governor, just the intermediate and main. The clip is on the shaft as well as what I assume is the spring keeper. I can't imagine the spring being able to come off by itself. So is it really necessary as I don't think I've had it all along? If so, does someone have a spare?. Second, I forgot to mark the position of the throttle arm on the shaft. Is there any way to figure out where it should go?

Thanks.

The idling spring is not attached to the main governor capsule of later 1.6TD's or the AAZ, the idling spring is attached to the second lever located on the back of the pump. It is an extension spring, you would have had to unhook it to remove the pump top.

Ballistics? See if you can match wear marks or scratches, failing that you'll have to install it so that the inner lever is somewhere around 70-80º with respect to the pump shaft axis (pointing towards the back of the car) at the idle position and them experiment from there. WARNING, If you have too much tension on the governor the engine will run away at startup, be ready to shut it down.
