I've got a 1.6TD motor and trans from a 92 eco jetta that I am putting into a 94 2.0 gas golf.
I replaced the injectors (with stock) and have a non-eco pump ready to go on.
plan on doing all the free mods in the "more power for your 1.6TD" post
http://vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=645If anyone thinks this is a terrible idea, please tell me. The swap seems almost too easy, so I'm expecting huge problems

stuff i'm expecting/assuming:
-take out gas fuel pumps
-tach won't work
-hope the gas AC, alternator serpentine belt setup fits the diesel?
-rig glow plug switch, cold start cable
-hope the diesel driveshafts fit gas spindles
-hope the diesel subframes bolt up to the gas car
any advice appreciated
use one of the gas fuel pumps for a lift pump
install a regulator
its not a "bad" idea, per se
hey,ya work with what you have
if you have a 1.6 sittin round, and have a mk3 with a nuked engine, then its a done deal to me ,id do it too....
I did it, its not really really hard as long as you have all the MK3 stuff like mounts. The turbo bolts up to a MK3 diesel downpipe. The main problem i had was adapting the power steering pump to work on the MKI engine. It didnt work out very well, and the motor ended up being shot, so I upgraded to 1.9. However even with a shot 1.6TD and a 3.67 final drive the car was not really slow.

Thanks
Is it true that using an A2 8 valve gas intake manifold helps and that it bolts right on to the head?
it will bolt to the head. All 8v stuff is the same.
Use a mk2 PS pump instead of the mk3. I'm planning on putting a 1.6NA into a mk3 golf. It'll have some close gearing I'm thinking with a decent 5th
Thanks, the gas intake manifold looks like it must be better then the stock diesel one.
Which motor mounts are you using? Are the A2 diesel the same as the A3 gas?
