Hello all just wanted to pick some brains on a slight problem I have. 1984 Rabbit 1.6l great car runs like a top the only problem I have is getting it started. I DO HAVE A BENTLEY COMING just bought it off ebay and I have searched but have found nothing to help me out.
Injection pumps are new to me and I think that is where my problem is.
The car cranks over good speed, all my glow plugs work as does my cold start valve the problem is it won't start. But if I open the injectors and let fuel flow out and reseal the injectors it starts right up. No excessive smoke nothing just a smooth idle. My idea is there is to much pressure going to the injectors possibility?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds more like it's losing it's prime, check the fuel lines from the pump to the filter for air. Makes sure those fittings are tight and that the rubbers hoses are not cracked.
i agree it sounds like air in the lines. if you don't already have a clear line running to the pump, i suggest using a clear line there. its been a great time saver on many occasions for me. i just had issues with my 1.9 not starting.. i thought it was electrical, but on quick inspection of the lines i saw bubbles... so i gave it 75-100% throttle on startup and it lit right up. try matting it when you start the car and it should start to sound/feel better and better until it starts if it is air in the lines.
Well after getting my bentley book and getting an hour to sit in front of Alldata it turns out my shut off valve was not opening on cranking?? So I could start it with the key in the run position with the remote starter switch but not from the ignition. The solution you ask........ I accidently left the key on when I was hooking up the valve shorted it against the pump and hey what do you know starts right up. Okay it was probably a bad connection of some sort but anyway it works thanks for all the help.

It's probably the seatbelt lockout. Mine has the same problem. The PO solved it by wiring in a toggle switch
seatbelt lockout??? :?
Stupid feature to prevent you from starting the car unless you're buckled in. If the wire to the seatbelt breaks, the car thinks you haven't buckled up even if you have.
He is in Canada. He doesn't have the seatbelt lockout feature. Canadian spec dubs never had it. You Yanks are the ones with that issue
