Power Figures?

since we're talking about gearing, once i install the transmission i bought, i will be able to go 118MPH @ 4500 rpm with reg tires. and 125MPH @ 4500 rpm with 16" tires.

i personally wouldn't feel too comfortable keeping any motor at 4500 rpm for too long... but hey it would be pretty fun :)  only thing i would have to say is that if you've never changed ball joints/tie rods, bearings... then change all that before attempting to reach those high speeds... otherwise stuff can fall off.  i once heard of a chevette spinning out because the front end was rusted and a wheel came off.  probably doing only 100km/h i dont know whether or not the lady lived...

The fastest i have had my 85TD is just about 100mph. It was pushing 4500rpm, and had no more room to go. This is a fully stock car with stock wheels.

To get it to 100mph took some time and slight downhill grade. It was SCREAMING and the car did not feel safe at those speeds.

Cool. Sorry if I seemed a little hot-headed the other day.

jonz, if you don't mind me asking, what does your car look like? I frequent Loveland/Fort Collins. On my end just look for the silver stationwagon with the loud stereo and tercel4wd.com sticker in the back.

Well, on my Terc I run either 175/70R13's or 205/50R15's. She does pretty well.

There is a conversion kit somewhere to go to a VW diesel for a 22R tranny... Where was it.... ACME Adapters I think. I believe there are a few out there though.

some tires drive really weird... as in they will 'shimmy' from side to side... but that type of tire wears a lot less than others... i forget which ones they are...  when i had my (old) car going 160 on the highway (only way to keep up  )  it drove really really well.  it had new struts/shocks, ball joints, and tie rod ends, and a nice wheel alignment AND wheel bearings... all of those things help immensely!

My beast is tanish colored with a missing front drivers side hubcap. It has no TDI emblems, and no mention of diesel on it, except on the fuel door.

I am the short haired bearded guy driving it!

Honk and wave if ya see me!
