I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't currently have access.
Patient is an '82 1.6 NA.. new aquisition.
Car starts well and idles normally when cold.
Once warm, idle can stick at a fast idle, and requires dragging it back down with clutch and trans, and will then idle normally.
Its also been described as intermittant.
Any ideas? BTDTs?
If it were a leaking injector, I'd guess that it would stay high, and not be ably to be pulled down.
Governor problem?

i've had that happen when i turned the fuel screw out 1/2 a turn. i tried turning the idle back down with the service idler, but that screwed everything up. tell him to turn the fuel down a bit, but adjust the idle stop screw. that may fix it.
I had a similar problem on my 84 rabbit. Backing the fuel screw off 1/8 of a turn solved it for me. That screw is extremely sensitive to turn it a very small amount, and then test drive
More data:
No binding of the linkage.
Retarded the timing a bit this weekend, and it runs better, but the high idle condition is still there (occasionally).
Backed off the smoke screw / power dropped / idle sticking unchanged.
turned in smoke screw, / running better / idle sticking unchanged.
Still intermittant.
Still burning the first tank of Power Service (1/2 can) treated fuel.
Haven't pulled / tested the injectors yet.
Could this be a sticking centrifugal advance, that might respond to straight ATF or a Lubro Moly treatment?

i think it couldn't hurt to give it a shot of diesel purge... from what everyone says its pretty good stuff! i tried ordering some from myke_w in the states, but they won't allow shipment of that sort of thing into Canada??? damn!!! now i need to find a supplier up here...

More data from the previous night:
Retarded the timing based on chronic injector line breaking.
Noticed at the same time that the top 2 IP bolts were missing, which was probably the reason for the broken lines all along.
Replaced the 2 bolts and reset timing 'by ear'.
Noticed that while running, the engine seemed to retard slightly more as the two top bolts were tightened.
Yesterday morning, the owner said it was hard to start, so its probably too far retarded now.
Next step will be to set the timing with a dial indicator, now that I got the correct timing specs.
