diesel fuel pump???
« on: November 08, 2004, 11:01:16 pm »
hey guys is there an in tank fuel pump on the diesel rabbits?? or is the injection pump the only pump needed
I am having trouble starting my 1.5 liter and i think that it is because i am not getting fuel since when i spray ether in the intake it fires and it seems to have pretty good compression.
trying desperatly to get this thing running before i go out and buy parts for it
thanks in advance
justin

Is the injection pump primed?  As far as I know there isn't a pump in the tank on vw diesels.  I use a small electric 4-6psi fuel pump to prime my pump from a quart of atf.  My little fuel pump isn't strong enough to pull fuel out of the tank so I use the quart of atf instead.  Make sure you have the return line running back into the quart to relieve air pressure inside the pump if you do it this way.  Hope this helps.

you won't have good compression for long if you continue to use ether.

Make sure the fuel system is sealed. Any opportunity for air to leak into the lines will allow the fuel to drain back into the tank. Once the pump is primed, you shouldn't have any drainback problems at all if the system is closed.
