What to do with motor out..
« on: January 04, 2007, 09:20:07 am »
Other than putting a head or gasket on my 1.6, I thought I'd replace gaskets any maybe paint the old thing while it's out.  While I've not bothered with a compression test, it still fired right up in the cold after a single glow plug cycle, oil light goes out quickly, other than nailing injectors and a oil leaky head gasket, it seems as good as always.

So, I figured I'd guy a gasket kit and replace all the gaskets and seals.
Is there anything else worth doing while it's out?  I don't imagine it's going to stay in the next vehicle more than a year while I rebuild my TD.

Thoughts?

if all you want is a year out of the motor, just get the hg done and drive it till it dies.  these motors can take quite a beating and will still go strong.

True, my TD did about 600K with a re-ring and bearings at around 350K.
And a crapy rebuild head that didn't live half as well as the factory one.   :(

I'd hose out the engine bay while I had the mill out. Lots nicer to work on, prettier to look at.

I have been looking online, and having trouble finding rings for a 1991 1.6L TD. Anyone know a place in canada?
