New Giles pump & Passenger downpipe
« on: January 02, 2007, 06:51:56 am »
Hey everyone.  I just wanted to write a quick post to express my satisfaction with both of these products.  Giles is a great guy to deal with and definitely put up with a lot of grief when putting my pump together.  Thanks Giles!  After installing both the pump and downpipe at the same time the difference is quite substantial.  Power and economy have both improved dramatically.  Nice to know that we don't have to sacrifice our economy for the extra power!  I plan to do some fuel logs in the future and will post up some quantifiable info rather than just saying "it's better."  Boost is set at 20psi and there is absolutely no smoke whatsoever.  The downpipe helps hold egt's at 1300.  I'm going to turn up the pump another notch and I'll post what happens afterwards.  I can't say enough good things about both of these products and the guys that make them possible.  Keep up the good work Giles and Dave!

How does it feel with 20psi? Are you running an intercooler? Also, what are you running for the rest of the exhaust system?

Great! Glad you are happy, 1300 degrees is nice and low, and safe for that matter. Happy turbo dieseling!

Thanks Dave!   I have an intercooler on the way so that will be my next upgrade.  After the downpipe is just a good old 2.5'' straight pipe.

Well I turned up the pump 1/4 turn and went and conquered some hills. :D Made a bigger difference than I thought it would.  Power comes on quicker and pulls better.  Much more responsive.  Boost was creeping up to 23psi and egt's approaching 1600.  Was pretty fun but got a little nervous about the exhaust temp.  May try bring the boost to 25, but what I really need is that intercooler!  Noticed the idle is up to around 1000rpm so I probably won't mess with it any more.  Anyway, good results and the car is running better than ever!

nice. how was the fitment of the downpipe? i have been thinking about picking one up for a while.

did you get it with the ceramic coating?

i haven't checked out my exhaust to see what kind of bends there are.. but i wish passenger performance.. or passenger diesel i guess now.. would sell the downpipe with a mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust. i don't know of anyone in my town that does mandrel bent stuff.

I'll confirm the good fitment of the downpipe.  Slides in nicely and has good clearance to the firewall.  It really is a nice piece of craftsmanship.  If I were to buy another one I would go for the ceramic coating.  I can justify the cost after I spent $20 for a can of hi-temp paint!

Sure, I'll see if I can get a pic up here for you.  It may take me a few days though!
