I've heard quite a few diesels driving around with these large bore universal backboxes, it does make it louder, creating what can only be described as a very deep burble. Don't expect the 10HP power gain they promise though!

Just buy a cherry bomb and a set of ear plugs at the same time

I looked at these also as possibilities for my TD.. but in the end for my 2100 mile trip last week I just ran open straight 2.5" exhaust..
a 180* bend and angled down with a turned down tip so the sound/exhaust has to reflect off the ground/road
it wasn't too obnoxious.. not even driving thru sleepy towns @ 10pm.. was raining though..
certainly had to sound like a bat outta hell when I was trying to make my train (autotrain) and pushing down the orlando I95 @ near redline(4500rpm) and indicated 80-85 on my speedo.. (195-75-14 tires) :?:
all i know is I passed the majority of I95 cars on a saturday afternoon (sure a few still passed me) and some high end cars/SUVs seem to take it personally when a spotted (rusty) tan VW camper SCREAMS past them in the fast lane.
1600ccs of Diesel pounding FURY
made the train cut off by skin of my teeth, but wasn't last car there either..

Ahh the old I95 , used to live down in florida so i traveled that highway often. I dont want it loud, i kinda want it to sound like a Honda rice burner, not a mustang
