Blades told me that it is possible to put gasser cams on idi's/tidi's.

I've searched, but it was a topic on the old forum that has been erased.

So my questions are (I know nothing about cams btw):

-How many degrees do idi cams do have?

-Would putting a gasser cams would advantage performance in any way?

-Would putting aftermarket cams would be advantageous?

-Could a 16v (1.8 or 2.0) cam be used?

I don't know if 8 valves and 16 valves cams are interchangeable, educate me.

Blades told me that he remembered that a JH cam was used successfully.

Anyway, I'm just here to entertain a good conversation and maybe make things go forward in terms of performance. :D

I know somebody here makes cam regrinds for idi's, it would be nice if he could join in. :D

Dave at PP makes custom cams. His new site is http://passengerdiesel.com/catalog/
I read about a JH cam being used on a IDI. I think the pistons had to have deeper clovers ground into them though to avoid issues. I'm not positive though, I read it a while ago

2.0l 16v is a DOHC engine so it would use seperat cams for int valves and exhaust ports.8v int and exhuast on one camshaft. Is there any sohc new 1.8ts? i dont think there is but it would be cool to grab one from a wrecker and try that

1.8t's are all DOHC. Gasser cams need a lot of work to fit in the IDI's, the pulley sprocket is smaller both in width and the the actual mounting hub to the camshaft, and there is no slot in the back of the cam for setting the cam to TDC. Also you will need to machine reliefs into your pistons as there is more lift with the gasser cams.
