Hi, anyone happen to know Golf diesel gear ratios? Or a site that has them?
Are they different for the turbodiesel? (I don't know which gearbox I have since it is not the original engine for my car...)
I have no tach and no "w" output on my alt... so I was hoping to use the speedo to figure out RPM by the gear ratios.
I just turned my max rpm screw out 2 turns and it woke up the engine bigtime... now I'm really wondering how far I can go with this....

Try this page
http://scirocco.org/gears/
and you may want to check your tranny for the three letter code. or try using the rpm calculator.

Exactly what I was looking for! Now to find the code on my tranny. It's dark out now (in Europe), but where do I look in the morning?
Tnx,
Marcel

I'm assuming it's a 020 5 speed tranny. If so, then the three letter code will be located on the driver side of the transmission, where the cv axle meets with the tranny. you may need an old rag to wipe away any grease or dirt, I know i did when i tried to read mine.
here's a pic
