I think people have used screw drivers to remove them. I seem to recall someone screwing a screw into it and pulling out with that.

The front crank, intermediate shaft, and cam seals are all the same.  :)  They sell cheap "seal pullers" at parts stores, they work well.  I also have a "custom" small flathead screwdriver with a 45* bend in it, works great.
