I think people have used screw drivers to remove them. I seem to recall someone screwing a screw into it and pulling out with that.

The front crank, intermediate shaft, and cam seals are all the same.    They sell cheap "seal pullers" at parts stores, they work well.  I also have a "custom" small flathead screwdriver with a 45* bend in it, works great.
