ok so last week i put my Giles pump in my 1.6 NA rabbit, and i noticed some smoke today coming out of the passenger side of my hood, and there is fuel bubbling out around the #1, and #2 injectors at the head (#2 seems to be worse)

does this new leak have anything to do with the new pump?, such as added pressure

how do i fix it? do all i need to do is change the seals? should i assume that #3 & #4 are going to start leaking next? oh and what size socket fits the injectors? my set only goes to 19mm so i need to know what to buy

Check and make sure it's not the return lines leaking fuel, they can get moved around some when you install a pump. Might not be a bad idea to replace them with new anyways.

Other than that, I'd crank down the injectors, and the injector lines (but be careful you don't break the lines doing it, set them to the right torque).

here's another round of questions, let's see if i get any answers this time

so i bought a 27mm deep socket (cause that's what fits the injectors, yeah search function) and i pulled the injectors (engine to temp, always pushing towards the engine to prevent cracking the head) cleaned out the gunk in #1 and torqued it back down, but #2 had a lot of carbon built up in it and i could not get the heat shield out.

what does all the carbon built up on #2 mean??
how the hell do i get that heat shield out??

i did the trick where i loosened the union @ the #2 injector with the engine idling high and the engine speed did drop, so clearly it is doing something.

also i noticed today that fuel was bubbling out around the #1 glow plug, so seriously what is this all about?? :?

i noticed that the rubber plug on the #1 injector had a crack in it so that may have accounted for some of the fuel, maybe it leaked down the injector and air was escaping around the injector and glow plug causing the bubbling effect which has me so perplexed, any thoughts?

Remove the injector and disconnect the stop solenoid. Crank the car over a few times and the pressure should launch it out.

thanx guys, i'll see if i can't figure it out now, i put it back together last night and it appeared to be much better, so maybe i'm on to something
