AAZ or 1Z/AHU ??
« on: November 26, 2006, 04:33:17 am »
Hi, all. I presently have a 1.6 TD in my Caddy and the bottom end is slightly farugelahed, so I need to upgrade to a 1.9. I'm havine real problems deciding. What I'm wondering, is what are the pros/cons of an indirect injection diesel versus a direct injection diesel.  Is the IDI head with the precombustion chambers more problemous when boost is raised, etc. The truck will be mainly street driven with the occasional blast to impress the rednecks and Honduh drivers and will have a 367 bolted gear with a .71 5th and a Quaife LSD.

Differences were discussed a little in this 1.9TD vs. TDI-M Thread

If it were me and, I had the $$$ and access to the stuff.. TDI-M with a Cummins 4BT Pump for sure.

I have owned a 98 and an 03 TDI(Electronic) and have racked up just shy of 400K miles between the two.

One thing I can say for sure the TDI ain't....

That's a slow-revving pig..

I have had a 98 Beetle TDI and a 99 Jetta myself and, though they had good power, the rev limit is low.

Who, me? There are no electronics on either engine that I mentioned. I think the only real significant differences are the head and pistons, but I may be wrong.

Not really. Most AAZs have had the crank fix by now.

I wouldn't say most have. I have yet to see one around here have the crank fix, and there a quite a few AAZs in this area.
