Where does it fit exactly and does it make much difference? What other mods need doing first?

BOV mod first will help.
I get full boost about 500 RPM earlier, and don't bog on upshift anymore with the mod. I set it to 1 bar, so I'm only a little over stock on max boost.
After, y9ou may be able to turn up t he fuel a little before smoke happens, but a pyrommeter would be good before that. In my case adding boost without fuel didn't make much change to the EGT.

Oh the controller goes in the sinal line from the intake to the wastegate.

loook for 1 or 2 hoses on the turbocharger body.

Can someone show me a picture of the pipe the controller is to go into? Mines a 1991 1.6 TD (SB engine code) (I'll post up a picture later!)

Not sure if your turbo is the same as mine (Garrett) but here you go...

See the longer of the two black hoses there? You essentially put the boost controller in line with that. It controls the amount of pressure that the wastegate "sees". On mine, I simply got two longer pieces of hose and put the controller in between them. I've probably got a pic of that somewhere if you need to see it.

You definitely need to block the pop-off valve before doing that or else you'll be venting all your boost once you try to increase it. There's an excellent write up in the archives about doing this with a bolt or capping it off altogether with a piece of metal / wood.

i'd say it would be best to have it in the interior... that way you can adjust it while watching the boost gauge and driving. otherwise you will need to drive it. stop open hood, adjust, get back in and drive. would probably be a PITA

if you have the hose laying around, do a temp setup to the interior for tuning then put it in the bay when ur done and fine tune it case different hose length changes anything

i personally like the hillfolk boost controller... "MORE" hehe! need to find the pic of the setup!

i think the response time could be tuned with how much of that pressurized air you want the wastegate to actually see... by turning the knob a little bit outward.

Mine's in the engine bay right around the strut tower. Not ideal, but I didn't want to run it into the interior. After the initial tuning (note...drive around with the valve all the way OUT first), you don't really have to touch the valve at all, so it's not a hassle to leave it in there.

Have a look on ebay, manual boost controllers are about £25.

Thanks for that too - only other ones i've seen are Blitz ones at £229!
