Hi guys, im experiencing this problem for a long time and it seems i can't find the cause of it. My car has not been smooth lately, it bounces a lot when i press the acelerator and it has some kind of slap when i acelerate or deccelarate; my first thought was " ok, my injection pump is giving up", so iwent to a bosch car service and have it completly overhauled so the injectors which are brand new. My car continues the same way and i can't make a smooth drive. Im thinking about the gearbox or differential that can have something slackened. i'm sorry i can't explain myself better than this, but i really don't know whatelse i can do...
Thanks in advance

I am wondering if the timing belt was changed when you had the pump work done? It is possible for the engine to run if it skips a tooth on the belt but they do run ragged and rough.

if you had the injectors & pump installed at a vw service center, timing should have been done correctly. if your car is missing on acceleration, perhaps your compression is on the low side? or you have a problem with valve sealing etc? would sound to me like something with the fuel system though... such as air in the lines etc...

Somethings are making sense here. The guy at the bosch car service made a compression test on the engine and he said that the 1st cylinder had low compression (about 16 bar), and he explained that could possibly happen due to a bad valve seat. it's hard to explain because is something that you feel, and cannot describe. The pump is of an mk2 td engine (never heard of any incompatibility with mk1 engine) and what happens is; let's suppose i change from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, i release the clutch, start to press the gas pedal and at the begining nothing happens, at somepoint of the gas pedal travel the car gives me a little bump with some rubbing noise (like it has a worn crankshaft), and then it starts to accelerate, and it is more noticeable when on a descent, then it gives a big bump when the accelerator starts to work, and when it is climbing it shakes all over the place when in that same point. Oh, forgot to tell that it makes a considerable amount of smoke. JTANGUAY, you made me think again about that valve seat....

np. lots of smoke and no power are good signs of bad compression. hopefully just the valve seat, and not rings etc...

Well, the rings are still a possibility, but the thing is that it's only one cylinder that has low compression, so the valve seat is more logical, because, i think, the rings should all wear themselves equally, not only in one cylinder. BTW, can you take the valves out without removing the head? According to the Haynes manual, they show that the valves only come out from the bottom of the head.

another thing i forgot to say, the engine is burning a little oil. about 1 liter per 2000 km (1200 miles)
There's also the question of power loss, because i didnt notice any significant loss, it's very weird

Sorry i know this topic is a little outdated but i just remembered something today. When the engine was rebuilt the screw of the drivebelt tensioner was a little messed up, so whe i drove the car the drivebelt jumped about three teeth in the camshaft sprocket and i asked at Bosch car service the consequences in it and they said that that is about enough to bend one or more valves. could this be it? I just dont want to dismantle the whole engine before im almost certain that this is the problem

jumping 3 teeth... yeah you probably need some valve work. You don't need to dismantle the whole engine thankfully, just remove the head. The valves only come out the bottom so the head needs to be removed to remove them. Hopefully your pistons are fine

if it's only the valves it's true, but if they think that could be the piston rings they need to go almost for the whole engine

or the valves could have gouged the pistons

let's hope not. im praying to be only a bend valve or two.
