I need a clutch.....

Where would be the cheapest place to buy a decent quality clutch in Ontario?

Also online stores that ship and are in Canada would be appreciated as well. I am gonna need one but don't have a ton of coin to throw around.

Also is there anything specific I need to know when changing the clutch? Like are there any extra parts I am gonna need to pick up as well. I am buying a manual adjust clutch cable setup so I don't have to dick around with the auto adjust cables. But otherwise is there anything else I should get other than the clutch kit?

My mechanic told me I will be needing a new clutch soon. Logic says to replace it now while the tranny is sitting on his bench, but my pocketbook says to baby the old on along for a little longer yet. It's not slipping, and he said there is some wear left in it, was just letting me know since he had it apart.

Are the factory clutches fine or would you recommend an upgrade of some sort?

I have heard nothing good about auto adjust cables. IF you switch to a manual adjust cable you need the cable, the hockey puck bushing that goes in the Firewall and the bushing for the trans.

As for clutches I am sure that someone will chime in here on this one but I believe the factory ones are of decent quality but obviously there are better ones out there. So any help for both of us is greatly appreciated.

if you can bite the bullet and spend the money, go with 959racer's performance clutch... if your engine has no performance mods, the clutch should pretty much last the life of the transmission/engine unless you really suck and ride your clutch / let beginners drive your car  :lol:

when i swap my motor for the rebuilt one, i'm definitely going to get one of his clutches!  i've seen clutches that seem ok if you baby them, and then when you are on the highway doing 100 or so, they start to slip when you want to pass... its not cool!!!

This clutch has not exactly been babied by me....and on the highway there has been no slip to this point. Put the hammer down and she pulls like there's no tomorrow.  

But I think I found the clutch I'm going with when I do replace my clutch. Thanks for the link.

Mine is slipping. I know I need a new one. I just need to make sure I have everything before I got ripping the trans out

So I have an 020 trans correct?

I need a clutch kit, seals and probably a new flywheel correct?

All mk1s and mk2s have 020 transmissions. Alot of the mk3s do as well.

I'd recommend changing the throw out bearing and the arm for the pushrod. Check the PP for warpage and have it machined/replaced if nessecary.

ususally the throw bearings in these things last extremely long, i wouldn't bother with it, if i was going to make sure i replaced something it would be the push road and then plate the push road goes against,
