questions about springs.
« on: October 30, 2006, 07:32:59 pm »
I'm looking to lifting my A3 up for winter. I currently have H&R sport springs in it, so its lowered. I've got the stock springs, but I figure that I'll take it to both extreams. I can use B3 passat springs in the rear to take it up. But what to do in the front? Its the same as a A2 as far at the struts are and everything. Would B3 springs work up front? Or could I use the complete B3 strut assembly?

Any Ideas?

Thanks Cooper

get the front springs from a fully loaded with ac and powersteering cabriolet. that should do the trick for you.

What makes the Cabby any heaver? I was given a set of VR6 springs which should lift it about 2 inches, I think I'm just going to make a spacer to make the spring longer.

I've wanted to lift my A3 Jetta for a while, haven't got to it yet.

The B3 springs are similar to the A3 springs then? How much heavier or longer are they, and from wagon or sedan?

I know the B4 sedan rear ones are drastically different, I have a set of those & they've gotta be 6" longer & WAY heavier
The fronts are similar length & marginally heavier if at all.

I was considering using the fronts, with a spacer if necessary, and cutting the rears down coil by coil till I get my desired height. If they are to stiff/harsh, I'll perhaps make up spacers or extensions for the rears too.

On that note, how much of a lift over stock are you thinking, and any idea how far you can go without compromising the integrity or life of the CV's?

The b3 springs are longer and bigger. They lift it about 4 inches. I'm gonna cut them down and go for about 2.5 inches of lift.
