0,15% acetone in diesel should give you better econy (it should also smoke less)
i just readed on a dutch vw forum guys report they use 0,5-1liter@100km less. they drive it daily, so plastic in the (newer) tdi's is not a problem, who do it with a IDI?
The best mix should be 0,15%, it makes the diesel thinner, so when diesel go trough the injector, it become a better mist.
does it also become lower egt's?
?

If the diesel is that thin it may be hard on your pump. In Canada we have low sulfur diesel death for our pumps, so I buy additives....
I would be careful using acetone.....
i would think acetone would evaporate before it even had a chance to do anything
doesnt do anything we tested it at school in gas and diesel engines. its basically a placibo and it makes you look at your driving habits and drive conservatively

I tried it with straight diesel and various veg/diesel/petrol mixes and found no diffrence. Ray
until i see some credible scientific study done to disprove acetone's effects on fuel, i wouldn't say much on its benefit if any. all i can say is if you're going to try it, measure how much you put with your fuel. you dont want to over do it.
I dont have any of the data still but we did test the stuff in my power systems class and had no differences in a 3.8 gas motor, the following semester they did the diesel and like I said no results, I tried it in my car and one of the guys in the class tried it in his truck. below is the link to what we did, sorry I dont have any data anymore.

maybe there is better economy on engines with carburetors, who knows. i'm just saying there needs to be more scientific study on what acetone actually does to fuel on the molecular level. is it because the acetone is able to evaporate and take something bad out of the fuel? i'm just throwing guesses out there. what kind of car/truck did you test in? did you notice any rpm change with the small 3.8 motor? did you guys measure the dB to detect a quieter motor? things like that really help, but i'm sure that you guys did an excellent job.
btw, i don't think acetone really does anything anyways, but thats just a personal opinion... nothing to back it up really
if you do want to know a few products that WILL give you better mileage, here you go I have tested both with very good results:
http://www.ethosfr.com/ - ethos fuel reformulator
http://www.oilextreme.com/ - gas extreme additive
of course, both are more expensive than acetone
