Audi TT transmission upgrade questions for a rabbit TDI
« on: October 30, 2006, 08:07:47 am »
hey guys I picked up a 2002 audi TT 6 speed awd unit. I need a few things to complete the swap like inner CV joints. does anyone know where I can get these?

or does anyone know if the TT outer cv joints have teh same splines for the hub as the rabbits? if so then I can just buy reman axles

also how does one remove the awd unit since I will not be using it.

last question does anyone know if this trans can be made to a cable clutch, if not what are you guys doing for setups for the hydrallic clutches?

thanks guys
Justin

Why's that? The gearing specifically or just having 6 gears? On TDIclub or somewhere I read about someone swapping in a 6th gear, he said it was well worth it and highly recommended it. It was on a mk4 TDI I think

Its because of the gear ratios. but I have everything figured out I traded the TT trans for a tdi one and all of the hydrallic clutch stuff so I will be good to go

1.8ts (jettas/golfs) came 6 speed it would be your best bet to do that. i would think it would bolt up to the tdi. that tt *** would be alot of hassle.

the only thing that would have been difficult with the TT trans would be routing the exhaust since the awd box was right in the way. the TT trans bolted up since it originally had a 1.8 T

but yes simpler is better.

teh same splines for the hub as the rabbits?

Nop they are the same as the ones from the VR6. You can use Scirocco 16v joints or from another older VW with 100mm inner joints.

I don't think you can take off the parts voor rear wheel drive. Or you have to weld you tranmission to get it closed again.

Goodluck.

Were now converting a Golf MK1 with an Audi A3 Quattro driveline. Also a 6-speed gearbox. (think almost the same as yours) Were completely taking over the rear axle and suspension. Lot of welding there. I'll post some pictures if anyone is interested.

I traded mine for a tdi trans because of gear ratios and clearance issues, I could have made it work but running the exhaust would have been a pain in the butt
