Ziptar, good luck with the hunt!
HP, is that the case? I thought that the standard 1.6 Umwelt TD was 60Hp, that's what GSF and other motor factors seem to think anyway.

Umwelt is the English for the German for the American word for ECO... Thus 60HP is on target :wink:

Tom, we can say there are three Mk2 turbodiesel engines, all 1.6L. :arrow: RA/SB (80hp), JR/MF (70hp) and 1V (60hp).
The 80hp ones are the intercooled versions from factory and these replaced the 70hp engines.

A couple of weeks ago I tried to but one on ebay.de, seller was nice enough. He said my German was horrible (Thanks alot Alta Vista Babel Fish
) He said he would ship it to me via DHL for $157.00 which is allot but I was willing at the time. We couldn't figure out how to get the money to him. he didn't take paypal, I couldn't find anywhere that I could get a money order that he was guaranteed he could cash, and my bank wanted $85.00 to do a wire into his account. We both finally decided that I probably shouldn't bid because I was already at ~$250.00 and I hadn't even made a bid yet.
Since then I have found out that bank transfers are free in Europe as long as both banks are in the Euro Zone and the transfer is made in Euros. My nephews Dad lives in Holland and my Nephew spends every summer with him. I have him and his dad now primed and ready to assist with and intercooler purchase if need be. Depending on how large it is my nephew might even check it as baggage on the flight home and be a "Mule".
So I'll keep trying I guess.

You guys in England take note of how much Ziptar was willing to pay!
I paid 50 pounds for the cooler and hoses, plus shipping. $250 for the whole unit with shrouds wouldnt have been a problem.

Seriously guys, I wouldn't waste the money on that factory stuff, for some of those prices you are well and in some cases completely paying for a properly designed and fabricated front mount IC setup that will actually work good. I just threw a GTD intercooler in the dump 3 days ago...

I get that the factory cooler is not the greatest and that front mounted is better but, at the same time, I have yet to see a used factory setup go for more than the cheapest aftermarket kit for a MKII that I have been able to find to date. The kits that are available are mostly for VR6s. I am also not looking to set a new land speed record.
My main motivation for wanting one is simplicity. I'll have enough going on swapping a TDI into a gasser as it is. Just to make my life easier and to get the swap over and the car on the road as soon as possible, I want a factory setup I can drop in, button up, and be done.
I don't disagree that a custom setup isn't better. I don't want to fool with it at just this point as I don't have a ton of space and equipment to do the fabrication myself. I don't have the time to do the fabrication myself or to go pawing through wrecking yards to grab different bits and pieces and bodge something up. That being the case I'll be spending $$$ anyway for som,eone's kit or a factory one.
When done the car will be a daily interstate commuter, 90 miles each way in a straight line over flat Florida ground at 70-80 MPH. The intercooler doesn't have to give me +50HP or handle an extra 10lbs of boost.
I just want to get the swap done, once it is and I am driving it. Then maybe I'll decide I want bigger, better, faster, more. For now though I am trying to keep the swap as simple as possible.
What LeeG is true... While $250 is getting to the upper limits what I'd be looking to spend. You guys on the other side of pond, instead of throwing them away and having them in a land fill. Do the environmentally responsible thing and sell it to a North American and get cash in the process. It's the "Green" thing to do.....
Get it.... "Green" as in $$$ (or should I say € € €) Get it!! I crack myself up...
The other draw I think for us over here is we never got them... You guys see them all day long. You can tell us how horrible they are all you want.. Doesn't matter.... They are still special, because we have none they have an extra little mystique that we can neither justify nor explain. Nothing you tell us otherwise is going to replace that. You should take advantage of this, Post them on the classifieds, take our money, smile, and wish us luck. :wink:

If i buy it - who would be interested in it and for how much? can sort out postage to the US / Canada once i've got it and weighed it for international shipping.

Well I'm suprised there are no takers. I would, but I am trying to sell the mk2, and the better half might ask questions if I start buying parts for the car I said I'd sell.
935Racer, FMIC's I see for sale go for $200 just for the IC. Then there is the fabrication. Can you sell all the parts to bolt a FMIC on a car for $250, or even double that?
Sure, FMIC is better, but even getting to 90 HP like a GTD is a pretty nice bump from stock.
FWIW: I paid £34.64 to ship the IC and hoses to Canada via DHL Shrouds and stuff would add a bit to that I'm sure. So if it sells for £50, you probably have it at your door in NA for $175. Plus something for MontanaGTD's time. Although I see the vendor has 'ships worldwide' now.
