idling probs
« on: October 23, 2006, 06:45:03 pm »
hi, new to this forum

I have a 1985 golf C, 1.6L NA diesel,  I had the nozzles replaced and pump recalibrated, that solved my starting issues.

The one thing bothering me is the idling, the guys at the shop say they cant help it, it happens that the engine wont idle below 1600 or so rpms, if I turn the idle stop screw it dies, the throttle shaft has a slight movement in it, if I tilt it towards the front the idle speed corrects itself, then fouls when it goes the other way.

Can anyone tell what can be the cause?

it's probably the residual fuel screw.  if that thing is backed off too much the car will die at low rpm's.  at least thats what happened when tinkering around with it on my car :)

should be on the back of the injection pump.  look up the DIY thread for lowering rpm
