inline pump on a TDI

Hi all!
recently I read this topic

This guy has an inline pump on a TDI. Does anybody know if this can easily be done? What are the benefits from these pumps? One benefit could be you can drive on vegatable oil without pump probs.

If you take a look at the photo's you'll notice that the inline pump is taller than the valve cover. The tractor engine is mounted vertically, if the engine is leaned back 20º as it is in the car, the hood clearance issues become obvious. Aside from adding a "bump" for hood clearance you would need to build custom brackets, timing pulley, injection lines and you would need to modify the inline pump with heavier plunger springs, altered governor etc, to allow it to operate to 5000rpm. P-series inline pumps are rated no higher than 3000rpm. You would also have to put up with quite a bit of additional combustion noise. The inline pump has no provision for advancing timing with RPM, as most engines fitted with an inline pump have fairly limited RPM range. All the timing required for high rpm operation would have to be applied at all speeds, the diesel rattle would be quite loud.
The advantage would be better operation with vegetable oil and better reliabilty at very high delivery volume, I can't think of any others.

Does anybody know if there is a difference between inline turbo pumps and non-turbo pumps like on our pump the LDA?
Yes, turbo inline pumps have a boost enrichment system similar to the LDA on a rotary pump.

ah even that second link only showes the tractor running, the frame and the rear end...does any one have saved pics in case they changed the website?.. i am very interested
also you can get the p pump engines to spin 7000 engine rpm buyt im sure they don't lasst forever that way but the pulling 5.9l cummins truck run about that rpm and 4500 is possible on a daily driver..so its a plasible pump infact ive been iching to try one ..just 5the drive system would need to be worked out..

yea i only rev my tdi-m to 4500-4700 you dont need more than that anyways

blew 3rd right outta it
i found a 7A at A&T
and i got a ASF for 150 from waterbury,conn
i think ill put in the ASF for now,but the ultimate plan is to put the 3.67 from that box in the 7A

Here's a pic of a 1.9L TDI with what looks like an inline a-series style pump which the web page claims has 8mm plungers...
Custom intake/exhaust on another tractor...

yea and ive seen those sick tweaked out billet injector pumps get as pricey as 20k for a top of the world total custom pump,ouch
