Governor cover...FLAT HEAD BOLTS?!
« on: October 21, 2006, 05:04:05 pm »
seriously, has anyone else ever seen this?  I see the governor mod post says there's supposed to be allen cap bolts.

Right now, I have 2 loose, and 2 are starting to strip, anyone have any ideas how to get these bastards loose?

okay, got the other 2 loose.  Tapped on the screw driver with a hammer...really hard, and put some PB Blaster on there.

But still, why flat head screws?

is your car a '81 with the 11mm head bolts.  I noticed that That my 81(and half)  with 12mm head bolts all had allen.  And the 81 with 11 mm head bolts all had flat head on the gov cover.  I had a hell of a time too.  I got a pair of vice grips put it on the base of the screw driver, and pushed down really hard, and used the vice grips to give me more turning power.

I'm not sure what size they are, but I have an 82.  I did the same thing, vise grips on the shank, and push down on the screw driver.  Of course, now I've lost the nut that holds the throttle linkage down  atleast I have a spare motor to pull a nut from.
