Help fuel in oil?!?!
« on: October 18, 2006, 09:07:01 pm »
Okay, I have figured out why I have low oil pressure and why I have an over filled crank case: there is a ton of diesel fuel in the pan. For those who do not know, I just put a rebuilt head onto my 91 Jetta NA 1.6 and could not figure out why I had no oil pressure and why it was leaking oil all over the driveway. now the question is how did the fuel get there- any ideas?
If  I hooked up the diesel lines incorrectly could it cause this? Can the return lines that run from injector to injector effect this? does it matter what order they are in? how does the vacume line work with all of this?

I have done an internet search and found that there were alot of GM trucks with this problem, it appears to be a leaky injector. If this is the case, how can this be- the injector pump sends fuel to that injector when it is needed, so how could it be the injectors fault. it must have something to do with the vacum lines?

I'm going to guess that you have the leak hoses (the little lines on the injectors) connected somehow to the vacuum system. The vacuum pump expells air (or whatever it sucks up, fuel in this case) into the crankcase.

The leak hoses should run from injector to injector, the last injector has a cap on its second fitting. The other end of the "daisy chain" is connected to the "OUT" bolt on the injection pump. My guess is that you have something other than a cap connected to the last leak hose fitting...

i have a leaky injector too... my oil level rises every so often, whereas before the oil level would go down.

basically as the injector wears down, the opening pressure decreases, and sometimes the injector can open a bit early... The injector can also drip, but very little dripping is ok.  I've also heard of injectors leaking at engine shutdown.

I'm just going to get my injectors done up with new nozzles and pressure tested.  Car still seems to drive fine, but power isn't so great.

The oil level does not rise that much though...  At first I had my oil cooler leak on me, and my oil level was rising to the point where my oil pressure was going sky high, enough to somehow spin the oil cap off... (yea pretty scary, I guess the thin diesel fuel helped lube it off...)

so I basically took a chance at changing the oil cooler... and thank god it did the trick!  what I usually do is rev the motor up a bit then turn it off to avoid injector drip at shutdown, only to around 2000rpm max.

Quick TD- you are correct. Thank you. I don't know what I am doing and should have been smarter about this. I have the long vacuum line going to the #1 injector directly to the t line for the vacuum pump. ok I guess I can disconnect that one. does any one know what the correct locations are for the vacuum lines that connect at the vacuum pump?

The smaller vacuum lines may run to power accessories or vacuum vaves that control them.

From what I've seen of the older cars, the vacuum hose probably connects to the heater/AC controls.

I went through some pictures I took of the engine compartment for exactly this purpose, but thought I was smart enough to figure this out: the long line with the t-connector went to a canister on the passenger fender, with the small line on the t connector going to the injuctor pump, and the end of the t line going to the vacuum pump. ofcourse it is all full of diesel now.
thank you everyone for your help.

that is right, one of the lines (the biggest one) goes to the vacuum booster on the master cylinder. The other line as stated before run to the firewall where the operate the HVAC (that flap opening sound and thud is the vacuum pulling the flaps open and close on your venti controls). the only other line runs to the thing on the passenger side of the fender, and t's into the IP
