Searched forum but asking (still searching just have other things to do)
I have this rebuilt shortblock and I don't have a HG or the ability to remove the headbolts from one of my "rebuildable" longblocks I have, however a headbolt from a Mechanical 1.6D fits in the block. so at least I know it should be 12mm but by the date can it be determined Hyd or mech?
26 06 85 on front of block
thanks
Seth

they switched to hydraulic sort of midway through '86 I believe... my old '86 jetta had mech lifters
I do like mech better than hyd. I could fill that thing up with my heaviest of buddy's... tow a trailer... and the acceleration was still pretty much the same
with the hyd... i feel the difference with just one normal sized friend.

Yeah looks like I thought faster than I could type, I meant to say that yeah it looks like a hyd block but figured I would post a picture just so people have a visual reference and that even though my block has an early 85 date it still is a Hyd
