Vw's 1.5l experimental TD
« on: October 11, 2006, 06:48:45 pm »
Does anyone have any information on this engine? I'm reading "modern diesel cars" by Jan P. Norbye and it shows a picture of an experimental 1.5l TD engine producing 72HP. It's on page 74 if anyone has the book.
It's a very strange design as the turbo is mounted almost halfway down the block.
When I find my camera I'l try and take a picture of the page

The book is copyrighted 1978 so this isn't anything new by VW

I know exactly which sentence you're referring to.  I got pretty excited when I read that also.  But in that paragraph the author is also talking about how many parts the diesel engine shared with the gas engine.  Depending on how you want to interpret it, it's possible that they were saying that they made 160 HP with the gas engine, not the diesel.  I hope they were talking about the diesel though, because that's about the same HP I'd like to achieve with mine. :D
