removing sending unit

I may have to remove the sending unit.....
it is a 91 Jetta NA 1.6L...........
Access is from the trunk through a
maybe 7" circular hole...... Is there
a tool for this or a work around tool... :?:
a strap wrench doesn't look like
it can get down there and have leverage...

To remove ring I've used a hammer and a blunt chisel. Then fingers...

Mine screwed off with my hands... I must be lucky
I think I have a spare ring if anyone breaks theirs...
