I had my diesel doing 180 k/phs yesterday
« on: October 06, 2004, 02:45:09 pm »
Yesterday me and my buddy were cruising around (he has a 1.8 mk2 golf) and he was ridding my ass, so I put the little diesel to work and smoked him in both way my speedo said 180 kph and my tach said 5000 in 5th gear but it will not rev past that not that I would. Would it be crazy holding my car at say 4600 for long periods of time? I have the ags? tranny and i am running p 175/70r13'sdoes anyone think my speedo is far out and my car could never do that???

anyways thanks for listening and feedback would be appreciated

AGS tranny?  So you have a 1986-1989 turbo diesel golf or jetta?  Your tires are, like the above poster said, not rated for that speed so you risk a blowout and death I suppose if you're going 180 at the time.  Also 180 in an 100 zone is automatic dangerous driving I think (2 year suspension?).  Other than that I'm sure the vw diesel engine can do anything and if you got some z rated tires and a good radar detector I would say go for it at 4600rpm and hope you don't kill yourself.

I'm sure this comment will be unappreciated by some, or maybe even most.  But screw it, I'll say it anyway.

Who really cares if some a-hole kills his own sorry ass driving nearly double the speed limit on a public highway?  That's not a problem, as far as I'm concerned.  It's just Darwin and natural selection at work.  Morons leaving the gene pool before they have the chance to add more mini-morons to the mix.  If anything, it's a net benefit to society at large.

The *real* problem is that there's an excellent chance such morons take out one (or many) OTHER innocent users of the public highways while they get their fix and show off how "brave" they are.

Yeah, yeah, I'm absolutely certain that *everyone* doing 180 in a 100 zone is god's gift to driving skills on earth.  How dare I even question that, right?  I see these guys all prove it all the time as they swerve from lane to lane, dodging traffic, playing 3D Tetris with the slow-pokes doing only 120 in the 100 zones.  Fun, fun, fun.

Take it to the track, where you're only risking your own life, not everyone else's.  Show some f*cking responsibility.

Anyone who feels the need is now free to flame away at me (and, of course, prove my point with every one of their keystrokes).   :)

first of all im not one of those retards who dodge in and out of traffic because I dont really care what other people think, I normally drive the speed limit and obey all traffic laws. The odd time I do get stupid I never in danger anyone but myself. I never ever speed when there is other traffic because of the reason for a possibility of killing others. If I am stupid enough to go out and kill myself thats my problem not anybody elses.

Thanks for freakin out

I think we all realize that high speeds where we endanger others is retarded, while high speeds on empty roads is merely illegal and stupid, but there is no call for a flame war. I'm cool with what both Otis and Jeff wrote.

As a reformed high speed addict, I would like to encourage all of you to try out autocross or road racing. Both are such a rush you won't feel the need to press the limits on public roads.
