Looking for 1.9 TD glow plugs for a good price
« on: September 30, 2006, 02:09:58 pm »
Hi all, been a while since I posted last.
One of the glow plugs on my '93 golf 1.9 TD is burned out.  It happens to be one that I replaced last winter.  It was an $8 Italian made plug of questionable quality.  I would like to replace all of them with Bosch or Beru plugs, so I called the dealer and they are $23 each.  Does anyone know where I might be able to find some cheaper?  German Auto Parts doesn't have them for the 1.9 TD and they are about the same price anyway.  I'm not being cheap it's just that this car is not worth spending much money on.  Thanks in advance.

You may look in car parts dealer, bosch parts weren't only on VWs, so you might be able to get them about 15$ each, I payed mines 50$ and I had the cost price...

Brian Harrison may be able to get you some IDI glow plugs, it never hurts to ask.  I got a set of 4 Bosch TDI glow plugs for $71 shipped!  For the TDI ones he charges a flat shipping rate accross Canada.

Ok thanks guys...I emailed Roseland.  It looks like 23 bucks is about the going rate for glow plugs unless I buy a set.  The ones I bought for $8 must really be crap.

The $8 ones are probably made by child slave labour :)

For critical parts like glow plugs or any other parts that must be in top shape to make sure the car still rolls, dont mess with italian or chinese cheap parts... Get bosch original parts and be sure that the car will start in cold times...

I got a smokin' deal on a pile of VSP brand glow plugs  a while ago... they have been working in my mom's 1.6 and my father in law's 1.9 for a year and a half now. I have 17 of them left... $10 each

Of note: they are not "duratherm" type plugs like the later 1.9s need. If your glow plugs stay on for 2-3 minutes, these will burn out.

I paid 18$ each (with taxes) at the dealership.

I have a low rate because I worked there 2 years ago. It works out to 27% off.

The site burn your money gave is a gold mine!!!!

As roadganstah mentioned, don't go cheap on critical parts! :D

But if you can get the exact same part for less, why not?
