odimeter issue

I recently had to swap out my TDI guage cluster in my 2000, a freind tried to tell me that to leagaly do this I was to reset the odoimeter to zero and have a inspection station place a sticker on my door frame, is this so? my odimeter reads 75k, and I dont know how to reset it, and im not trying to pay anyone to do so
any info would be great

i would just leave it. i dont belive you can reset it because it stores the memory in the body computer and in the cluster itself.  so if you went in with a scantool your dash would say 75 k and the body computer would say what ever the actual mileage is.

Your state/provincial licensing department should have a process whereby you can record odometer replacements on the veicle title.  I have never heard that altering a odometer or having a non working odometer was a problem legally.  As long as you dont fradulently misrepresent the true mileage.

I once reset a type 1 odo to al 0s after rebuilding the car, when i relicensed it they just asked if it was a mistake on the form and I said that I had reset it to 0.  They didnt seem to care.
