Another water pump pulley (non-ac) question
« on: September 18, 2006, 02:03:36 pm »
The other thread that just popped up reminded me of something...I'm assembling all the parts I need to convert my 1.6TD in my caddy to non-ac (no pwr-steering either).  I've got everything except the water pump pulley...

Can anyone tell me what the number is for the 30 mm non-ac water pump pulley?  Better yet, anyone have one?

The one I have is 068-121-031G, but it doesn't appear to be exactly correct (wrong offset).  Et_ka seems to be a bit confusing about this subject.

I looked for a while in the archives, but couldn't find an answer, Here's Jake's post on the subject.  It doesn't mention the pulley I have:

http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=61

Also... how many "styles" of crank pulleys are there?  One of mine is a single groove all metal pulley (currently on the ac setup), the other is also from an ac car and is the harmonic balancer type pulley with two pulley grooves on it.  I'm assuming from Jake's post that the single non-harmonic type is used in the non-ac setup.

Hope this is posted in the right section...

I'll run outside and check for you. All my non-ac setups only have the single groove crank pulley

Thanks.... part number should be right near the bolt holes.

Anyone got an extra one?  I'm close to getting the non-ac setup on (with a brand new W terminal alternator) to make room for some intercooler piping!

the very first number could also be a 8 or 9. The pulley is rusty and I can't tell. That'll cost you one dremel wire brush BTW :P
I don't think I need it. I'll PM you a price

Anyone have any ideas on the styles of crank pulleys?  Did some of the A/C cars come with a harmonic balancer style crank pulley?  What was the second groove used for?

Could be for PS, but the engine (A1) that it came from definitely didn't have it.   I wouldn't think VW would put a balancer with two grooves on an engine that wasn't equipped to need to use it... then again, I could be wrong.
