What years and what cars would i find it in?

1992-1995 passat and 1993 to mid 1997 jetta and golf, canadian models only, no US cars got the 1.9TD. They were also available in europe but I'm not sure which years.

The TDI was introduced in 1996 in the passat and in mid 1997 in the jetta only. The golf was not produced with any diesel engine option from 1997 until the A4 cars came out in mid year 1999.

what can you get 1.9td used engines for $$?

now that your Canadian $ is so high :wink:  you might consider a 'new' 1.9

they go for ~ $2000usd  long block or $3500 complete (south of the northern border)

I wonder what a guy could pick them up for in Mexico (NAFTA) or Brazil?

these guys buy them somewhere, and they are no fun to deal with (even the dealers complain (price and delivery varies every shipment)
