Well after gathering up enough information on how much its going to cost to rebuild the TD ECo in my '92, I can't help but feel like its just a waste of money! I'm looking at 1300 in machine work and parts, and thats before I do any modifications! it feels to me like I could buy a whole engine with everything I need for that much money, maybe even swap in one of the newer diesel engines? I'm up for whatever it takes to get it moving and on the road, it just seems like there is a better way...so this subject is up for discussion!
Whats the best bang for my buck?
i had a few idi's
td 's that is
nothin so far has held a candle to the tdi-m that i build last year
build one of these if you have a td,cause you need a td pump
Hey there, Hillfolk'r. Just had a couple of questions for you, Whats the M stand for in TDI-M? Which year of jetta did you get the TDI from, was it a direct fit into the A2 chassis?
Thanks!
tdis from 96-99 (mk3 and passat) will go right in for sure, mk4 tdis i am not 100% on, but ithink they will work in a mk2, the m stands for mechanical, since you use the mechanical pump off of a turbo diesel to run it, but you must get the pump built to do this. but yeah, like hillfolk says the tdi is the way to go for power, and mileage as well i suppose... i bet even a na tdi (di as per euro specs haha) would run pretty well, anyways i wish i would have gone the tdi route instead of the td route on my jetta, oh well, the td is still a very fun motor, and i just turned out 40 mpg while driving like an ***, i was getting in the thirtys for a while, but my front brakes had been dragging, and sometimes you can't tell there dragging so make sure you check the calipers and sliders. anyways, i'm getting a red 83 4 door bunny, and if i keep that car it's getting the tdi treatment with gtd styling, like fspgtd or joes car, i'm excited.
yea trev
i used a 98 jetta tdi engine code ahu,an engine from an a3 "bolts right in"
m means "mechanical"
if you have a "turbodiesel" then its easier to build a "tdi-m" than it is to build a tdi-m from just starting from scratch, cause you need some 1.6 td stuff like pump, exh manifold, turbo, maybe some water necks and stuff like that
they run great
