I nstalled a new Giles pump on my 92 jetta with a 1.6TD
The pump has the modified govenor modified boost enrichment parameters and lets not forget the dynamic advance.
I just drove to sudbury and when I got there the fuel gaguge just came off of full where with the old pump it would have used halve a tank.
Yes the fuel milage is impressive but the power is more so. Now I do all of my daily driving in the first inch of pedal travel it drives like a gasser.
On the way up north I had the car loaded and I pulled on to hyw 69 and hammered it, my buddy in a v8 dakota behind me could not even keep up. All of this is on a rebuild with 10 over pistons, stock boost settings and without an intercooler so there is still room for improvement.
If you are in the market for a new pump I would definetly recomend Giles at Superior diesel.[/b]

Can you give us a better idea how much better the fuel mileage was. Would this giles upgrade increase your fuel mileage on a stock turbo 1.6??

When I heard the economy of Smokey Dubs Car at 350 or so km per 1/4 all racing, and felt it's power I was sold. This is going to be an upgrade for the future.
I think if he drove it normally it could have eaisly went past 400 - 500 km per 1/4 tank
Holy COW MENG............

I also have a Giles pump and I can't say enough about it; I had him rebuild the pump and injectors and my fuel consumption is definately way down. I am in the middle of measuring it but so far I'm 2/3 through the tank and already past 600k. 1.9 w/ T3 I guess the boost pin Giles puts in doesn't really start any fueling till about 4 or 5psi, which I very rarely reach unless I'm bootn' it anyways. Totally rad!! so zagarus, take a semester off and phone Giles

So far it has been 16 months with my rebuilt pump from Giles. I have a 91 ECO. He rebuilt the pump and added the LDA. I had my K14 rebuilt by a place in Tx and the engine I did locally. I can say this much it really makes a difference, to top it off make sure you add a 2.5" down pipe as well. That really woke up my jetta. My best mileage has been 725 miles, 1166.7km to 14 gallons/ 53 liters. 51.7mpg.
Would be interesting to see how well it would run with a bigger turbo and intercooled.

apparently i'm like number 9 on giles list of performance pump upgrades. Its definitely gonna be tough to wait that long, especially hearing all these things from you guys. Along with the GTD nozzles i have sitting on my dresser and the pump i'm expecting a real wake up for my 1.9TD. Giles sounds hella stressed out though. Poor guy

how much boost are you running? Thats really good mileage, and I bet your car is zoomy
Oh yea guys, don't forget to run your diesel fuel lubricants to protect your investment. That new low sulphur stuff will kill your pump prematurely.
