AZA? I guess you mean AAZ. An AAZ is the 1.9TD that came in the MK3 93-98 Golf/Jetta in Canada and other countries besides the US. The ABA is the 2L Gas engine also available during those years.

Only the 1993 B3 and 1995 B4 got the AAZ with EGR.

The A3 Jetta had the 1Z, AHU and AAZ in 1997.

You can find some rare 1998 with the AAZ, but for all practical purpose, most people say that they don't exist (very few).

The AAZ engine was also in the Audi 80 in the UK up until about 1993/4 IIRC.  However, it was dicontinued in favour of the 1Z engine (the badging being TD & TDI respectively).
I had an AAZ engine in my Audi 80, and was unimpressed.  On paper in comparison to the 1Z, it came of worse pushing out 75bhp to the 1Z's 90bhp.  The fuel consumption at 56mph was also 43mpg (UK) to 54mpg (UK), however that may be more to do with the whopping 1300kgs it was pulling...
Cheers,

Over here the 92 b3's had 1.9 AAZ with EGR, I know, I've rebuilt 2

And yeah I think 97 was a half year for the jettas getting tdi's, but I thought only the 1z, I though the AHU came out a year or two after???

92 AAZ??? Never heard, maybe early models.

You can find some 97 AHU and some 99 1Z, it was all mixed up, exept for the B4 TDI passat that all received 1Z's.
