    America, DUCK YEAH!!!
got my hands on a gtech pro
« on: August 26, 2006, 12:14:20 pm »
so i finally got my hands on a gtech pro, just borrowing it, i'm not all too impressed with it, it's very difficult to get it into mode, and in order for it to read horsepower i have to launch it for it to start reading i can't just be going down the road and put it in horpower mode and do a 3rd gear pull, and i dunno what's up with the quarter mile time deal, it  never stoped reading.  any suggestion on how to better it ?

Is it the SS version? I've wanted one for a while, Malone is quite familiar with them I think, not sure what version he has though.

ok, i dunno how much better it is now, but i just started using it as more of a timer for 0-60 haha, looks to be around in 8-9 second range, it's hard to say since i have to drive at the same time, i'm sure you all understand, is that good?  this is an 81 2 door jetta with no options and i turned the fuel screw in about half a turn to the right, and i have the boost pin turned to the deepest side and the star wheel down about 1.5-2 turns, it boost up to around 23 pounds. with a kkk turbo... lemme know  thanks!

I think those things are like stickers on hondas.

Why not find a dyno and take it to the track?

real dynos for a diesel are non existant around here, I know because a normal dyno is difficult to find let alone use...

We plan to go drag racing next month or after that but before hand it is fun to see how accurate a piece of plastic can be.

I have the RR. Bought it on ebay some time ago.

I used to have Gtech Pro like Trev0rbr's and I felt unsatisfied with it because accurate RPM calibration is not possible. It also does not show or record HP and Torque curves. It just displays peak HP. It's ok for checking differences in 0-60mph and 1/4 mile times after modifications.

The newer Gtech Competition, SS, RR, etc. models with three built-in accelerometers and HP/Torque plotting is better by far. Results are very consistent with proper calibration.

HP and torque numbers in Gtech are always lower than numbers from a typical dyno. A 172bhp VR6 that dynos ~155whp reported around 135 net HP in Gtech if I remember correctly.

That's why I want one, Actuall dyno pulls run, what? $100 for 3? Or the g-tech is $200 for unlimited "dyno pulls"?
