hi I am new to VW's and other manufacutres usually offeer REbuild kits they are OEM, they include GASKET SET, PISTON RINGS,PISTONS, CONNECTING ROD BEARING SET,MAIN BEARINGS SET,THRUST WASHER SET,OIL PUMP and, TIMING BELT. Obviously a Diesel kit would be a touch different but I was wodnerig if these are avalable? They usually cost around $100 or so, well let me know and thanks in advance
As far as I know, VW doesn't offer a rebuild kit like you're talking about. There may be some after market company who offers all of these things in a single package, but I can't think of one. Assuming you're talking about an older IDI diesel, if VW did offer something like this, it probably wouldn't be less than $500, and would most likely be $1000. Of course, whether your'e talking 1.5, 1.6, 1.9, TD, TDI, etc. is gonna make a HUGE difference in price. Just go out and get the parts individually. The real expensive stuff on your list is the pistons, oil pump, and gaskets. Everything else you could probably get OEM (though not necessarily VW brand) for less than $100. It's those pistons that are gonna cost ya.
don't forget the piston coatings  $$$ but worth it!
is there anybody on this site that sells coated pistons for a 1.6?
I sell pistons and I can coat them as well. The coatings really arent that expensive. An engine rebuild kit for these engines is pretty expensive, its pretty easy to spend $600 on just bottom end pieces.

Thats not too terrible, I spent $850 on just the valve/seats job on my 65 turbo corsa corvair.
How much is the head work on an 81 diesel rabbit rebuild??
How much can you expect to spend on an engine rebuild?
