1Z mtdi + 0.260 nozzles
« on: September 08, 2025, 12:40:35 pm »
Hello, I am new to this forum and happy to post here for a feedback from someone who actually has tried what I am hesitating with.

I have a VW 1Z engine with an upgraded stage 1 gt15 turbo blowing at 1,1 bar. The engine is running with a mechanical 11mm injection pump, specifically made by a German specialist for this engine. At the moment, I run 0.216 nozzles. I am looking for just a tiny bit power.

As I was talking to a diesel specialist in Germany, he told me that a Mechanical TDI injection pump does need big nozzles, as the fuel needs to be injected as quick as possible, and a mechanical pump is less precise thant the original (electricaly optimised) version. He told me to go with 0.260 nozzles and instead to moderate the fuel quantity by decreasing the fuel richness screw on the mechanical pump.

My problem and question is that whenever I ask somebody or read information on forums, I read everywhere that 0.260 nozzles will produce smoke and is only for upgraded turbo and 200hp minimum etc etc etc.

So I don't understand and kindly ask somebody on this forum who ACTUALLY tried this setup, a feedback, that would be really useful to me.
Regards and thanks ind advance to anyone who have a verified answer.

Way outside my wheelhouse, you would be into some time and money just trying it.  So good for you to ask for an experienced voice first.

Oh yeah,  welcome to the club.

First off, do you have a power goal in mind, like a specific number?

You may get the results you need just by adjusting the injection pump.

.260 nozzles could produce more smoke, but also that can be adjusted out with the pump, but you don't want to use too large of nozzles because it affects mpg, driveability, and could be a waste of money.
