What is the engine out of?
Probably from a MK2, did the alternator bracket come with it?
The MK2 alternator bracket can be converted to non-AC quite easily Using the same AC belt and gives you a 90 amp alternator.

Long time with no reply, but I still have big plans for my 1.6td build. I will finally have some shop space to tear into it in the next couple of months. I started my 1.6 for the first time in 10 months, turned over on the first crank, gotta love an IDI. Also I somehow scored a MK2 GTD intercooler setup which I couldn't believe, so I guess now my motor will be intercooled. With this new information, I wanted to ask everyone's opinions on what they recommend I should do as far as my turbo and injection pump setup:
For injection pumps, I currently have:
1.6 NA Giles pump (already on the car, with timing done recently by previous owner)
1.6 TD pump (from my parts motor, it worked fine on the car up until the motor blew, not sure if it leaked or not)

For turbos, I currently have:
K14 EcoDiesel turbo (seller said it needed oil seals, I would send it out to get rebuilt before using it)
K24 1.6td turbo (compressor wheel blown to bits, probably would be a more expensive rebuild)

I know regardless of turbo sizes, it would be smarter to use the TD pump. However I've never messed with timing a motor before and am admittedly a little nervous to do so. This would also greatly add to the time my car would be inoperable and I'm worried about biting off more than I can chew (already will be turboing a motor for the first time, making boost pipes for the GTD intercooler, possibly making my own oil return line if I use the K14, all for the first time.) Would it be that much of a disadvantage to use the Giles NA pump, even with the EcoDiesel K14 being the smallest possible turbo I could use? At least for the time being.

As far as turbos go, would the K24 be smarter to use since it will be intercooled now? I would obviously like to only get one rebuilt, and I hope I don't regret my decision later on. If I use the K24 I feel like I would have to swap to the turbo pump immediately to take full advantage of the higher psi.

Thanks for any input.

I would start with a rebuild of the K24 turbo. Get that done and then install it and the TD injection pump. Sell the Giles pump so you have cash to use on parts. Sell the Eco turbo with or without a new seal kit put into it. Honestly, they are easy to rebuild, and parts are cheap on Amazon. A working pump gets more coin in your pocket and fewer parts in the storage building.

My 2 cents.

A TD pump doesn't deliver more fuel than an NA pump.
The aneroid on top is to reduce fuel when there is no boost.

 I can't remember if this is a MK1 or MK2.
Maybe put it in your signature.

People seem to like the K14 because boost comes on quicker.
 It will still feel slow.

I like the VNT-15 turbo but there is some custom work that needs done.
You are already going to have to make a TD exhaust,.. the stock NA downpipe won't work with either of your TDs.
And the oil drain depending on which TD you try.
If it's a MK2 the rear motor mount nearby will need replaced.
Because the vnt-15 turbo hangs low, you can even use a gasser intake.

Some of the stock TD parts are hard to find like the exhaust manifold and intake.
But you already have those so that isn't a drawback unless there is an intake with better flow.

The VNT-15 will make the 1.6 feel fast without pushing it too hard.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm definitely interested in the VNT at some point in the future.

How did you go about controlling the vanes in the VNT? I've seen some people use arduino or some other software, I'm not really interested in that as it seems finicky and takes away from how simple the IDIs are which is the best part imo. Is there a simple way to do it?

Do you have to make a custom motor mount bracket for the engine-side rear? This is on a MK2 if I hadn't mentioned it before.
