1.6TD bore scratches

So my lower end was burning quite a bit of oil so I found a good running motor to swap. The bores still had some of the original cross hatch and only very minor ridging on a couple cylinders but what it did have is some odd scratches. The motor was low mile but it sat for a long long time ...there was a lot of corrosion in various places so I'm thinking there the crap that had built up in there came loose and created these scratches when the motor was run again?

Can you hone them out? That might be enough and not make it so you need to do a new set of rings.

Someone suggested I use sour cream containers,
cut to fit the cylinders, to keep stuff out of the cylinders
while I clean the surface and bolt holes.
I think oykos (sp) yoghurt containers might fit too.
It works great to keep out small pieces that might get between the piston and wall and cause more sctratches.

So i swapped my motor to this bottom end along with the AMC head from the other thread and started it up today...so far so good, test drive tmrw when I reconnect cooling system.
I asked Giles to build the pump to 15psi...how am I going to get 15 pounds out this motor i don't know...blows a lot of smoke right now.
Question: how much a detriment is oil contamination on the mating surfaces? I had a bunchnof oil in the head and it seeped onto the gasket before i could really crank it down.

It's nice to keep the block and head grease free.
That's why the sour cream cylinder plugs are handy,
I can just spray the surface down and not worry about stuff going into the cylinders.
I suppose a little oil should be OK,.. guess we'll see.
