mTDI Pump Tutorial on youtube!

I was investigating how to do an mTDI but the pictures of "Hey" have been lost unfortunately.

There's a Finnish guy who has a veeery interesting video:

There's auto caption on the first video. For the second one he says he will do it soon.
He also removes the vane pump because he doesn't need it (has an electrical high pressure pump instead)

The only thing I don't understand is why he removes the rollerbearing cage below the camplate.
The TDI one is round (the IDI one has a slot to enable the gear to spin), so he cuts one side off;




Say you were to use a 1.6TD pump as basis (9mm one), and a 1.9 AHU pump (10mm), would it be sufficient to leave that cage in place, and only swap over the;
1. Cam plate
2. Plunger / head
3. Timing assembly (the springs and stuff behind the timing cover)

Basically all the components above those rollers?
Or wouldnt the camplate be able to "roll" over that ? Which would make use of the grinder necessary..
