B40 now available in Delta BC
« on: August 11, 2006, 11:46:11 pm »
Delta Autogas / Husky under the Alex Fraser bridge is now carrying B40.  Bought my first tank today, havne't drive far enough to have purges the B20 from the pump & lines yet.  So far no failed seals    Will report back how it goes.

There was a thread on this station and its Biodiesel offerings, where did it go?  Searched on all kinds of keywords that would have been in that thread.

A month or so ago I searched for it too (it was my own thread!) and I found it very odd that it disappeared. I spoke with the administrator of this board, RedRotors, and the only other moderator, fspGTD. They weren't aware of the thread's disappearance. I think I know how/why the thread was removed but I'd rather not discuss it here.

Back on topic, what's the price of B40 like? 4 cents lower than regular? Seeing as B10 is 1 cent lower and B20 is 2 cents lower. I've got about 1/2 a tank left (in my 2006 Jetta PD100 TDI) and will stop there in a few days.

From memory, the B40 was 3.5 cents cheaper than straight diesel.
They now sell B5, B20 and B40.

I hope the old thread was lost due to technical difficulties, not spite.

For the record and to replace part of the lost thread...

Since they started selling Biodiesel in January, I have used B20 for 23,000 km of commuting with the exception of 3 tanks of diesel when I had to buy elsewhere.  Thats 1300 or so litres.  No leaks, no changes, no replaced filters etc.  I have mileage records for the car going back about 2 years or 150,000 km all of the same commute.  The economy 'hit' going from diesel to B20 was one sixth of 1 percent.  The 'butt' dyno didnt notice any performance hit, and the car seems a bit smoother on B20.

I am curious to see how things go with B40.

An interesting note not really related to this:  The commute described above was to my old job, 3 months ago I switched to a job closer to home.  (I'm saving 2 hours of travel time per day!!)
Old commute:  250km round trip lotsa highway, plus some city
New commute: 90 km round trip, not much highway that isnt stop and go
Old mileage:  5.87 litres per 100 km
New mileage: 6.49 litres per 100 km

So, same car, tires, driver, no engine adjustments, a drop in economy of 10% strictly related to the type of driving.

When you want to move up to B100, get in touch with the Vancouver Biodiesel Co-op and we'll set you up.

Unfortunately, the Province is only providing tax breaks up to B50, so we'll likely never see more than that at the pumps, only through the Co-op  :(

Lee, I clicked the forums.biodieselnow.com link and the server's not responding. ? I will try again another day.

Before (April 13 with max. B20):

After (August 13 with max. B40):

Before (April 13 with max. B20):

After (August 13 with max. B40):

Another pointless picture:

My experience with regular diesel vs. various biodiesel mixes in each vehicle I owned (1997 Golf IDI, 1984 Rabbit IDI, 2006 Jetta TDI) were limited so I don't have accurate comparison data. I am actively recording mileage in a spreadsheet though.. I should have accurate comparison data later.

Averaged 43.1 US MPG (5.46L/100km) with my 1.6 NA Rabbit + B20, but I didn't switch back to regular diesel before I sold the car to compare.

Currently averaging 37.9 US MPG (6.21L/100km) with my 2006 TDI, 50/50 highway/city. Filled up with B40 today but I'll likely stick with B5-B20 most of the time.

Yup, we can do that.  BYOD, or we can source you a tote.  We're applying for some grant money to expand our services to other locations as well,
probably with the North Shore or the Valley first.

Update on B40:

I have driven 3200km on B40 now.  Mileage is down 1% from what I got on B20 or D100.  I dont notice a power loss.  Still no leaks.
