FITTING A REMAN OR USED ENGINE INTO MY MK2???
« on: December 08, 2020, 05:22:28 pm »
Will any 1.6 normally aspirated VW diesel engine fit into my 1991 MK2?
Will all of my accessories, i.e., pump, injectors, vacuum pump, motor mounts, tranny
be usable without major modification ??
Any 1.6s that definitely can not be used?
Just browsing engines at Parts Place, Inc. in Michigan and Qualty German Auto Parts in Victorville, Ca.
My engine code is: ME

Thoughts??  Comments??

Yes, although I wouldn't personally buy or bother to install a 1.6 that had the 11mm head bolts.

That would have a B at the end of the head number.
For 11mm headbolts to avoid.

 Where are you located?
I've seen several cheap or free 1.6 engines posted lately.
Tornado red, '91 Golf 4 door, with M-TDI 12mm pump, south bend clutch, VNT-15 turbo, 02A trany
MK4s: 2000 TDI jetta, 2003 TDI wagon, 2000 golf 2.0 gasser.
'84 Rabbit with 1.7TD KY block pistons bored to 80mm, VNT-15
'84 GTI with stock 1.6TD starion intercooler.

I've only considered the 12 mm version, but a good detail to verify.

My head number is 068103373T.
Just curious. Does that mean that the 11 mm head will not fit over the 12 mm studs??

I am in Vancouver, WA across the river from Portland, OR.
Free does not include shipping, which is worth considering. Shipping from southern California
to Vancouver for an engine with tranny is about $500.
I'd appreciate the leads.

thomas m have you been watching Craigslist lately?

Several engines with or without transmissions.  Prices vary but in there at that 500 dollar area if that is what your budget is at.

My search is normally VW diesel and then just look at the owners, too many dealers flooding the listing otherwise.
