ECo pump questions...
« on: August 11, 2006, 04:21:20 pm »
Hey guys hows it going? I recently purchased a 92 Eco diesel Jetta. I've got a few miles on it now and have been reading up about turning up the pumps, but most of it is for the standard TD pumps. I was just wondering what i can do to my Eco pump, i know your guna say pay 900 and send it to giles, which sounds great if your not a college student, so that is not an option for me. So can i turn up the fuel in my eco, is their a limit switch as described in the http://www.vwdiesel.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=579 post? Also with doign any of these does fuel mileage get worse better stay the same? Kind of important to me because i'd rather not lose fuel mileage, i know if i'm in the throttle a lot it'll get worse but thats acceptable for when i want to get on it.. The car isn't right here this moment, my dad wanted to try it but it'll be back tomorow. So i may try some thigns over the weekend if you can make any recomendations...
Thanks, any help its greatly appreciated.

59 h.p. isn't enough for you?    Welcome to the ECOdiesel club.  I've tried to gather information myself in the quest for more power.  Here's what I've read or been told.  You'll want an I.P. from a turbo motor, it is a simple connection to the turbo, then you'll get more fuel when the turbo spools. Next, you can add performance injectors from one of the vendors here, once you do that you'll want to ditch the catalytic converter and run a custom exhaust from the turbo back.  Opinions vary on the size of the exhaust.  This is what I plan to do within the next 6 months, cost shouldn't be to bad depending on how much you have to spend on the I.P.  Now if I can only fix my after run cooling fan problem....

hahah 59 is definately a bit low for me, i'm coming from a GMC pickup with a 350... which is still my woods/towing truck so i'm used to a bit more power...

As far as the mods go, i'd plan on pulling the cat and getting some exhaust work done if/when i can get some more fuel to her. Is their any other option to swapping the pump out to a standard TD one, anyway to make the eco pump spit out more fuel? I'm just looking for a bit more power, i want to keep my fuel mileage up too so i don't want to do anything crazy. How much can u find a TD pump for?
Thanks

If you tune the pump and the engine right you should be able to get more power and more economy out of your TD pump than your ECO.

The ECO engine was designed to run efficiently. Meaning minimal smoke output, minimal exhaust, etc. Slapping a TD pump on the engine and making some adjustments will do your engine some good.

that sounds good, i thought with more efficiency came better fuel mileage, not the smoke reduction and what not... The eco will propbably hold me over for a while until i can find a pump... i hit 103mph(still some left to go but came up to a hill) on the way to work today on the interstate... and average speed was between 85-95... so it seems to do well... Keep in mind this was done at 4:30 in the morning with no one on the road, and radar equipped. But put a hill in front of it and 85 was difficult to keep...
