Hi,
I'm about done with phase 1 of my VNT-1.5 project, and now it's time to mount some gauges. I would like to know the best place to mount the coolant temp and oil temp senders. Should I mount the coolant sender into the flange on the side of the engine (the one that goes to the radiator), or the the flange on the end of the engine (the one that goes to the heater core)?
Also, the TD oil filter/cooler mounting flange has three M10x1 holes tapped into it. Obviously, one goes to the turbo oil line, but I can use either of the other two for the oil temp sender. One is pre-filter/cooler and one is post-filter/cooler. Which one would be best?
Thanks for your input.
I agree with libbybapa, get an A/C front waterneck (the one that goes to the rad) with the extra boss and use that. The stock location is on the heater core waterneck but there is no coolant flow when the heater is off, so readings are somewhat accurate but delayed.
Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to hear that the front flange is the optimal place for the sender. Fortunately, I already installed a new flange there, and have a couple of spare holes where I could place the sender.
any pics of the location in the flange? you know, for the verbally impaired  ?
This is the stock location for the A/C hot temp cutout switch. It uses some massive wrench, like 29mm or something, to unscrew.
I bought a new flange, and it came with an M10x1 hole where libbybapa put the red X, and one on top too (it looks like you already have a sender there). I had to buy the little plugs to plug the holes.
