Evening all - well it is here.
« on: August 08, 2006, 10:11:35 am »
Just thought I'd introduce myself as a new member.

I'm the proud owner of a Mk2 Golf (Rabbit?) 1.6 GTD, with approximately 80 ponies thanks to VW very kindly fitting a factory intercooler.  :D

I've got a couple of things to sort on it first (rusty valance, rusty door, broken window mech, rear suspension etc.) but I'm then possibly thinking of upping the power somewhat, and thought I'd pop over some some browsing & advice.

Cheers all,
Tom

welcome tom!

sounds like a nice ride. the mkIIs were also called Golf over here, only the mkIs are 'rabbits'.... you may come across some people that tell you mkVs are 'rabbits' as well, but they work for VW of America :)

there is a lot of info here. dig into the IDI section and try the search. cheers!

burn_your_money, the turbo is Oil Cooled IIRC.
I'll post up some pics of the engine bay as soon as the weather clears up a little to see if there are any significant differences between what we got, and what you got  :D
Thanks for the welcome all,
Cheers,
Tom

Finally got around to taking some pics, and please accept my apologies for the state of the engine bay
I'd be interested to see how this compares to the setup that you gents have.
Cheers,
Tom

so with the GTD, they put the battery in the trunk as stock?

Nope, you can just see it poking out from under the intercooler air feed on the RHS of the engine bay.  It makes changing the battery slightly more of a pain, but it's a very compact build.
Cheers,
Tom

Welcome TomB

i'm a newbe too, only 3 posts old,  :)  Gtd looks cool, a bit of tlc on the rear panel and she will look sweet. I don't often see those alloys anymore, i think their getting kinda rare. 8)

I noticed in the photo's - 2nd picture, there is a sticker on the cam cover. does it show you the engine code? does it start with SB by any chance?
Only reason i'm interested, I purchased an engine that I think was orginally from a Golf GTD and the engine number starts With SB.

its an 80 bhp intercooled, may also be from a passat?

if you happen to be under the bonnet any time soon i wonder if you don't mind seeing if its the same.

the engine will be going into my Brick(caravelle) over the winter months- well as soon as my house sale/purchase goes through.
