'91 Eco---Crankshaft Pulley Problem--- Need Puller?
« on: August 07, 2006, 11:36:09 am »
Car--1991 Eco w/ AC and PS.

Eventually want to replace timing belt, seals and more...

Right now I am having a problem getting the pulley free from the crankshaft. I have removed all 4 allen bolts from the pulley and the pulley isn't budging. I never had a problem removing this pulley when I replaced the TB on my '91 NA or '77 1.5, am I missing something?

I have tried to gently tap on the backside of the pulley w/ small hammer in hopes that that would free it up (making sure not to bend/damage pulley)...any ideas what I am missing? I never removed Crankshaft sprocket bolt on the other models. Could the eco require me to remove that bolt to get to lower belt cover? Bentley doesn't mention or show anything that would lead me to believe I need to touch that bolt. All help appreciated just wanted to check to see if you guys had some technique or could point out what I am missing. Is probably staring me in the face.

Thanks

I had to remove the big center bolt and pull the whole thing out on mine. Then I took the 2 sprockets stuck together to the bench and pressed the sprocket off the pulley. Since you're doing a timing belt anyway, might as well go that route. Grease everything up nicely when you put it back together so it wont get stuck anymore.

I just used some elbow grease and got it....Left Sprocket bolt in place.

Definitely will grease it up when I put it back
